The curse of Eminem

October 2004: The rap superstar Eminem releases a single titled "Mosh", highly critical of President Bush and his policies in Iraq:

"Rebel with a rebel yell, raise hell we gonna let em know
Stomp, push up, mush, fuck Bush, until they bring our troops home...
Let the President answer on high anarchy
Strap him with AK-47, let him go
Fight his own war, let him impress daddy that way
No more blood for oil, we got our own battles to fight on our soil"
On November 2, President Bush wins re-election. On January 31, Iraqis overwhelmingly choose democracy.

December 2004: Eminem releases another single, titled
"Like Toy Soldiers":

"Step by step, heart to heart, left right left
We all fall down like toy soldiers
Bit by bit torn apart We never win
But the battle wages on for toy soldiers"*
In February 2005, Iraqi jihadis make fools of themselves after publicizing a kidnapping of a toy action figure.

Eminem's latest single, "Mockingbird", you'll be happy to know, deals with a much safer topic of family breakdown and single parenthood.

* OK, the song doesn't actually relate to war, but it sounds good anyway.
